New Manual Articular Approach and Neural Manipulation Two 'Must Know' Modalities developed by Jean-Pierre Barral and Alain Croibier New Manual Articular Approach (MAA) and Neural Manipulation (NM) were developed in clinical practice by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral in collaboration with French Osteopath Alain Croibier. The courses to teach these modalities to healthcare professionals are based on clinical techniques personally developed by Jean-Pierre Barral combined with Alain Croibier's scientific information. New Manual Articular Approach is a manual therapy modality that applies a comprehensive approach to the treatment of joints. It integrates all aspects of the joint including the nerve, artery, bone, capsule, and ligaments, as well as visceral and emotional connections. Neural Manipulation examines mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura and neural elements. It provides assessment and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the dural and neural components not commonly focused on with musculoskeletal symptoms. Lymph Drainage Therapy as developed by Bruno Chikly, MD, has many applications beyond lymphedema. Among the other conditions it addresses are inflammation of various origins, burns, scars, headaches, chronic pain, eczema, dermatitis, wrinkles, tinnitus, sinusitis, pediatric infections, geriatric degenerative conditions, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, detoxification, insomnia, and stress. Upcoming locations of LDT1 classes are: Colorado Springs, CO (May), Philadelphia, PA and Madison, WI (July), Sarasota, FL (Aug), Atlanta, GA and Austin, TX (Sept). For a complete schedule, click here. Dr. Chikly's Brain Therapy works extensively with the brain parenchyma rather than mainly on cranial bones and membranes. It trains practitioners to address very specific structures and physiology of the brain and spinal cord. The body often aligns itself around these precise structures and they are frequently unaddressed key/primary tissue restrictions. For more information and schedules for these workshops, click here.
Stay tuned for HFC's new one day and online Ethics Course, which will be unveiled in September, according to curriculum founder, Suzanne Scurlock-Durana. A convenient way to meet the new CEU requirements - from a trusted source! Also, HFC has received rave reviews for its new two day workshop: Full Body Presence - Skills to Energize Your Life designed for the lay public. Participants in the inaugural workshop, which was held in RESTON, VA, April 16 & 17th, were a diverse group including parents of special needs children, organizational consultants, government officials, and attorneys - as well a few healthcare providers. This workshop is designed to teach the practical daily skills of full body presence to those in all walks of life: helping parents stay calm and centered in the chaos of raising children in today's world, and then helping them take their centered, clear-headedness into their workplace meetings and the challenges of today's business uncertainty. It is offered in an easy-to-attend two day weekend format. If you would like to learn more about how you can bring this valuable workshop to your clients, contact Suzanne at office@healingfromthecore.com. And look for it being offered through IAHE in the near future as well.
Heart-Centered Therapy A note from Linda Bradak, LMT, CST-D Howdy, JR and JM. I am writing what might be called a "testimonial" to positively RAVE about and endorse the value of Alaya Chikly's Heart-Centered Therapy curriculum; I just took HCT1 up in Boise and am eager to sign up for HCT2. As you know, I've been in the Upledger loop for a l-o-n-g time: you know how much I Iove the work, respect what it can do, and how superb it is that CST combines well with Visceral Manipulation and other "modalities" under the IAHE umbrella. One of the questions on the eval form we completed on day 4 addresses "techniques" taught that we might find valuable. HCT is so much more than technique. It is blessedly SIMPLE, and so very profound and far-reaching in its gentle application. I can't wait to blend it in with the other ways of work I use, "proper tool for the proper job" and so forth - but clearing the dissonant energies of long-held and limiting family patterns out of our precious bodies makes SUCH a difference in terms of the ease, grace, and joy we can experience every single day of our lives and share with others. CranioSacral Applications For Pregnancy and Childbirth By Carol McClellan, CST-D, Developer of CST for Pregnancy and Childbirth Kelsey was so excited about being pregnant with her first child. She had driven 5 hours to come "home" for a baby shower with her family and childhood friends. I had worked on her and her family for many years. Since she had married and moved away, I hadn't seen her in years, so I was happy to make a special trip into my office one weekend for a CST session after the shower. I invited one of my associates, who is also a Doula, in order to do a multiple-hands session of CST. Overall Kelsey's pregnancy was going well although she was tired (not unusual for a pregnant mom with a busy work schedule) and did seem somewhat bloated, which she ignored because she always had an upset stomach. She had been looking forward to having her ultrasound and seeing her baby but she was not prepared for what the doctor discovered - a cyst on the baby's brain. He thought it was possibly a choroid plexus cyst, indicating Trisomy 18. More

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Seminar in New Zealand Using the same idea that she and Dr. John had used on the military base to help solders with physical injuries, as well as PTSD acquired in Iraq or Afghanistan, Carol McClellan put together a one-day class for the CS1 alumni in New Zealand. The goal was to help therapists get comfortable using CST at whatever level of training they were at, and to realize the powerful benefits of using CST in traumatic situations. In this case it would be used following the devastating earthquakes and aftershocks that New Zealand had been experiencing. The course included releasing shock from the body and techniques for resetting the RAS (Reticular Activating System), as well as overall self-help techniques. They reviewed grounding and neutral, how to help the body be more resilient to stress, and how to help those who suffer from physical injury or PTSD from the earthquakes. As a service to the people in New Zealand, Carol McClellan volunteered her teaching time, and Carol's Rotary Club in California generously donated the funds to cover the expenses for this one day course. It was a tremendous success. Click here to read an article.
"CST and VM form an essential part of the toolbox of a manual medicine practitioner. CST and VM together comprise complex approaches that have an elegant simplicity in practice. I find these two approaches allow me to quickly and efficiently resolve pain syndrome conditions that involve multiple body systems." Dr. Sundardas D. Annamalay, DAc, ND, PhD, Natural Medicine Practitioner/Consultant, Published Author - Singapore
